Product Description

A tatami is a Japanese term used to describe a type of mat used as a flooring material in traditional Japanese household. Tatamis are made of rice straw with fabric borders.

Our Bed-size Tatamis  are natural and bio degradable.  They are made entirely of rice straw without any synthetic filling in the center. No solvant or toxic additives are used in the process. Rice is cultivated for food and the rice straw is then woven into the mats.

Made to be used with standard mattresses and minimize the quantity of tatamis necessary, they are 100 cm x 200 cm by 5cm thick or 100 cm x 100 cm for the half-tatami.

Warranty and cleaning

The tatamis will last many years if used properly. The natural color of the tatami mat is greenish and take a wheat color over time with exposure to natural light.

You can occasionally dust or vacuum the tatamis and clean it with a humid cloth.  Avoid any excess water that could cause molding if not dried properly.

Boreal bed-size tatamis come with a 2-years warranty against all manufacturing defects. Damage caused by wear, humidity or inapropriate usage is not covered by warranty.

Odor and parasite prevention

The tatamis have a strong odor that comes from the rice straw itself. While this partially wears gradually, it is still to consider if you are sensible to odors.  A good ventilation will help the smell to dissipate faster.

The rice straw is dried for months after the harvest, then put in a special oven to eliminate all parasites. The final product will then have to pass all regulations for export by Republic of China Customs and Quarantine to garantee the tatamis are to the highest hygiene standards.

Once they arrive in Canada, the tatamis are stored in a dry and ventilated warehouse to help dissipate the odor.

The tatamis are exempt of any parasites, thus bed bugs or any other parasite contamination is not covered by warrantee.

Double

Le format double ''trois places'' est idéal en divan ou lit et permet d'y mettre un futon de qualité. Le format double est le plus commun.

The double size ''three seats'' is the best as a sofa or as a bed and allows to use a good quality of futon. Double is the most common frame size.

 Queen

Idéal pour les grandes personnes qui ont besoin d'un lit quotidien pliable. Cependant, l'assise est généralement moins confortable et le dossier plus haut que le format double, donc moins intéressant comme divan.

This one is perfect for tall persons who need a daily bed foldable. However, as a bed, it's generally less comfortable and the back is higher than the double size, so it's less interesting to use it as a sofa.

 Simple studio - Twin Lounge

Complète bien un ensemble ou est utile pour les pièces étroites. Confortable en position standard ainsi qu'en chaise longue. À part leur largeur respective, les formats Simple studio et Causeuse studio sont semblables.

Completes perfectly a kit or fits well in small rooms. Comfortable in the standard position and in the long chair position. Except their respective width, the sizes twin lounge and loveseat lounge double are similar.

En divan: On y met un futon 39''x54'' plié au centre; la rallonge de futon 21''x39'' doit être rangée ailleurs ou utilisée en chaise longue.

En lit: Rallonge de bois intégrée au siège sur lesquels on ajoute la rallonge de futon 21''x39''. Une fermeture éclair permet d'attacher les deux morceaux pour un lit de dimension simple 39''x75.

As a sofa: Requires a 39''x54'' futon folded in the middle and an extension 21''x39'' needs to be stored somewhere or to be used as a long chair.

As a bed: A wood extension is integrated into the seat on which is added the futon extension 21''x39''. A zipper keeps the two futon pieces together to make a twin size bed 39''x75''.
